"7Tuner 1.7" is designed for Power Macintosh using System 7.1.2 or System 7.5, and for 680x0 Macintosh with System 7.0-7.5. "7Tuner 1.7" also requires at least 256 colors or grays. If you are using a PowerBook that is capable of connecting external color monitors, please refer to "Troubleshooting" file to set up your monitor. Since we don't have Performa Macs to test 7Tuner, the compatibility with Performa series is unknown. However, if you're using a Performa (prior to PowerPC Performas) with System 7.5, 7Tuner 1.7 is fully compatible with your Performa Mac. One time installation does it all! "7Tuner 1.7" fine tunes your Macintosh System 7's Finder and System and makes your Mac's operations easier. Since "7Tuner 1.7" is an application, once you have fine tuned your Finder and System, there is no conflict with other control panels and extensions, and there is no need for extra memory.
"7Tuner 1.7" is the latest update version of "7Tuner 1.6/1.6x," we add many new options and icons in this update version. Version 1.7 is also an "Universal" version that works on system software from 7.0 to 7.5, and it runs native on Power Macintosh and 680x0 Macintosh.

1. Add all possible command-key equivalents to the Finder menu (19 of them).
NEW-option for choosing either command-S or command-/ for Shut Down menu item.
2. Change all folders to colorful 3-D folders (total of 70 different folders).

Apple recommends not to edit all system-related files directly, and we are following it completely. That is why we ask you to make copies of Finder and System files before using 7Tuner.
****** Warning ******
If you follow the installation steps, using 7Tuner is 100% safe. We, Dragonsoft and authors, are not responsible for any damage to your files due to user's carelessness (please read the "Read Me First!" file for the important information).
Please read the "Agreement of Using 7Tuner" carefully before using the program. You can find the agreement text in "7Tuner 1.7 Folder" and under the program's Apple menu.
****** Installation ******
(We have included an extra file "Installation(printout)" for your convenience. You may want to print that file and follow the instructions step by step. The installation instructions in "Installation(printout)" text file are the same as shown here)
Please read the "Read Me First!" file before you follow the instructions!
The first time you launch "7Tuner 1.7," an agreement of using 7Tuner will appear on your screen. If you agree the terms, you can now start using 7Tuner. If you do not agree the terms, 7Tuner will quit itself, and please then destroy your copy of 7Tuner.
Please turn off virus detection extensions before using 7Tuner. For better performance, you may need to turn off virtual memory (includes RAM Doubler) as well, although it is not necessary. You may also have to turn off some other extensions, such as Central Point's MacTools' CP Scheduler. After the successful restart, you can use all extensions as usual.
@Tuning:
1. Make copies of "Finder" and "System" files from your "System Folder."
You can do this in two ways:
A. Select "Duplicate" from Finder's File menu or press Command + D.
B. Option-drag the "System" and "Finder" into "7Tuner 1.7 Folder".
(The included application "“copy” Adder" will change the names of "System" to "System copy" and "Finder" to "Finder copy" if you choose the B method as described above).
2. Make sure the names of two duplicated files are "Finder Copy" and "System Copy", then drag both copies into "7Tuner 1.7 Folder."
3. Make sure "7Tuner 1.7," the "Finder copy" and "System copy" are in the SAME FOLDER.
They must be in the folder. Please DO NOT RUN 7Tuner on your DESKTOP!!!!!
4. Launch "7Tuner 1.7" by double-clicking it.
5. Select "Open Main Selection" from 7Tuner's File menu, or choose individual option by selecting an option from "Options" menu.
6. Select options you want to tune by clicking the correspondent buttons and check boxes.
7. Click "Tune" radio button.
8. If everything goes well, a dialog will appear and tell you the process is successful.
9. Quit 7Tuner 1.7, the program will ask you if you want to rename the "Finder copy" and "System copy" to "Finder" and "System". Click "Rename Now" if you like 7Tuner 1.7 to rename the files for you. If you like to rename the files manually, please click "I'll Do It Myself". After 7Tuner exits to Finder, move the original "Finder" and "System" files from the "System Folder" into the Trash (do not empty the trash at this moment).
10. Move the tuned files "Finder" and "System" (after rename) from "7Tuner 1.7 Folder" to your startup disk's "System Folder."
11. Restart your Mac (the Desktop will appear a little bit slower the first time, and it is normal).
12. If the Finder is operating normally, empty the trash or copy the original files to your backup device. If something goes wrong, drag the tuned Finder and System files to the desktop, and drag the original System and Finder files from the Trash to your System Folder, drag the tuned Finder and System to the Trash and restart. Please refer to "Troubleshooting" file for the instructions.
### If you have tuned the Speedy Mouse option, please remember to change your mouse tracking speed to the fastest to take effect (it will faster than the standard "fastest"!)
@Untuning:
Follow the same steps as Tuning except clicking "Untune."
==== After each tuning or untuning process, you can keep doing other tuning or untuning process until you quit "7Tuner 1.7." ====
### If you untune any option under the Finder's Special menu, the whole Special menu will change back to System 7's default setting.
****** Special Considerations ******
1. The default command key equivalent for Shut Down menu item is (S). Please be aware that most users use Command+S for Save in applications. If the Finder switches to forground and you are not aware, this combination may give you headache. If you are not using Apple Guide for System 7.5, Command+/ is our recommendation (Command+/ is conflict with Apple Guide).
2. In 3D Folders & Color Icons' Extra Color Icons, you must have the new Sound control panel to see those icons although you can still change them if you don't have the newest Sound control panel. For the Printer and Modem ports icons, you must have the QuickDraw GX installed to use them.
3. When you tuned the Color Window option, the window title will also change to the darker color of the color you select. Please note that some items in the window or dialog may appear in white space. A dialog will ask you the decision before you do so.
4. If you are not running System 7.5, the "System 7.5 Aid" option is disabled. If your Mac's CPU is not the PowerPC, the "Welcome to Power Macintosh" option is disabled.
5. If you have tuned the Speedy Mouse option, please remember to change your mouse tracking speed to the fastest to take effect (in the Mouse control panel).
6. For System 7.0 and 7.0.1 users, the Fonts Folder in 3D Folders option is not available.
7. The "Eliminate Finder's rename dealy" option is currently only available for System 7.0-7.1 since we still can't find where Apple have moved the stuff to (we're DUMP!). If you do know the answer, we'd like to hear from you. Thanks!
8. For the "Cursor & Animated Pointers" option, we've found that for some newer Mac models, such as PowerPC, the System 7 default watch pointers may still appear sometimes. A dialog will ask your decision before you do so.
****** Operating Options ******
You can select several options to control 7Tuner's behavior from program's "Preferences" menu.
1. If you don't want to hear the various sound and music when you're running 7Tuner, select "Sound Off".
2. If you don't want to wait for the completion of 7Tuner's startup box, select "Hide Startup", the startup box will not appear the next time you run 7Tuner.
3. If you don't want to see the color icons in each menu item, select "Hide Menu Icons". The change will only take effect the next time you run 7Tuner.

Although Dragonsoft distributes 7Tuner 1.7 as shareware, all the tuning options are enabled because WE BELIEVE IN YOU!!! After your registration, we will send you the registration code to eliminate the shareware notice and the Shareware menu.
